Orioles Score Late to Upend Diamondbacks, 5-4
|
The Baltimore Orioles got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Rod Nichols, but it was good enough for the club to take a 5-4 decision over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Roger McDowell notched his 25th save in 31 chances. The last-place Orioles improved to 60-91.
Baltimore took a 5-4 lead on Pat Meares's 104th hit of the season. The 2-run single, which Meares hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Arizona pitcher Marvin Freeman shaking his head.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Nichols. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
