Cardinals Throttle Devil Rays, 5-1
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Orlando Devil Rays, 5-1, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium. The player of the game was St. Louis pitcher Scott Erickson. The Cardinals bumped their record to 78-74 with this latest triumph.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from first baseman Ivan Calderon. For the game, Calderon was 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 23rd double of the season gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel. "It's usually not just one thing."
