Reds Score Late to Upend Cubs, 6-4
|
The Reds faced a stiff challenge from Chicago pitcher Paul Wagner, but persevered to claim a win at Wrigley Field. The final score was 6-4. Wagner went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Cincinnati reliever Doug Henry picked up the win, upping his record to 10-9. Tim Davis was saddled with the loss. The first-place Reds, at 90-62, now lead their division by 2½ games.
Cincinnati grabbed a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth when Bobby Higginson hit a 2-run double. For the day, Higginson was 2-5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Higginson told the Cincinnati News. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
