Multi-HR Game for Sheffield in 5-3 Win
|
The New York Mets topped the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 5-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Gary Sheffield. Sheffield went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Mets on the day. The Mets bumped their record to 80-72 with this latest triumph.
With the game tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the fifth, Sheffield had a key at-bat for New York. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Sheffield, who finished 4th in the UL in OPS with .878 in 1991, hit a 3-run home run off Donovan Osborne, making the score 5-2, Mets.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
