Rockies Win at Washington, 3-1
|
The Rockies had to overcome a fine performance from Washington pitcher Livan Hernandez to grab a 3-1 win at RFK Stadium. Hernandez allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Jason Schmidt, the winner, improved to 13-10. He held the Senators to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Joey Eischen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 33 of 35 save opportunities.
Colorado needed the clutch hitting of Damion Easley to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Rockies on top, 3-1. For the game, Easley had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Easley told the Colorado News.
Colorado goes to 68-84, Washington to 93-59.
