Reds Need Extras to Top Yankees
|
The Reds grabbed a win, 2-1, at Yankee Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Brian Bohanon. Bohanon went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. New York is in the throes of a 12-game skid.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman David Segui came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing New York pitcher Lee Smith, he hit a 1-0 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 2-1.
"It was a test of wills," said Eric Deutsch, the Cincinnati skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
