Cardinals Beat Visiting Rangers, 10-8
|
John Kruk did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Texas Rangers from losing, 10-8, to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Kruk went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. St. Louis reliever Dan Plesac was the winner. His record is now 10-5. The losing pitcher was Bob Kipper. Steve Chitren converted his 37th save in 40 tries.
Tim Raines, who led the FL in stolen bases with 101 in 1979, chipped in for St. Louis with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel.
The third-place Cardinals now have a 4-game winning streak.
