Cardinals Subdue Minnesota, 4-2

The St. Louis Cardinals got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Marty Bystrom, but it was good enough for the club to take a 4-2 decision over the Minnesota Twins. The Cardinals bumped their record to 91-62 with this latest triumph.
The Twins had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Cardinals going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old first baseman Ivan Calderon came to the plate. Calderon hit a run-scoring single on a 0-1 sinker from Minnesota hurler Juan Guzman. It was Calderon's 134th hit of the year.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Calderon told the St. Louis Citizen. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
