Devil Rays Edge Yankees, 5-4
|
Orlando and New York duked it out at Yankee Stadium and the Devil Rays came out victorious.
The Devil Rays faced a stiff challenge from New York pitcher Mark Langston, but persevered to claim a win at Yankee Stadium. The final score was 5-4. Langston went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Orlando reliever Don Schulze picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Lee Smith was saddled with the loss. Frank DiPino earned his 22nd save in 27 chances.
Orlando needed the clutch hitting of Craig Biggio to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Devil Rays on top, 5-4. For the game, Biggio had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Orlando Today, Biggio said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Devil Rays bumped their record to 80-75 with this latest triumph.
