Padres Fall Short, 4-3, at Colorado
|
Colorado beat San Diego at Mile High Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Clint Zavaras, who earned player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Zavaras, now 8-7. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. The Rockies now have a record of 69-85.
David Dellucci put Colorado in front, 4-2, when he took Andy Ashby downtown. His solo home run came with no one out in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 8th home run of the season.
San Diego manager Matt Dodds said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
