The Florida Marlins managed to get by the Cleveland Spiders, 4-3, at Joe Robbie Stadium. Florida pitcher Kevin Appier took player of the game honors. The Marlins raised their record to 89-66.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Florida left fielder Juan Encarnacion, facing Sterling Hitchcock, had a solo home run. It gave the Marlins the 4-3 win.

"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Encarnacion said.
