Nilsson Helps Reds Run Win Streak to 3
|
Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Dave Nilsson, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the New York Yankees, 7-2. Nilsson was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Reds. Danny Jackson, the winner, improved to 4-6. He held the Yankees to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The Yankees, now 35-120, have lost 14 in a row.
One important at-bat for Cincinnati came with no one out in the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Nilsson hit a grand slam, which contributed to the Reds win.
