White Sox Stymie Cincinnati, Take 3-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Bruce Ruffin was masterful on the mound. The Chicago left-hander was named the player of the game in Chicago's 3-1 win. Ruffin got the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Ruffin allowed 1 earned run. The White Sox, with only their 9th win in 31 games, could be the worst team in the league.
With runs few and far between, the White Sox had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Chicago came in the top of the seventh inning, when catcher Nelson Santovenia delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Joey Hamilton and made the score 2-1, White Sox. Santovenia was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"It was a good effort all around," said Santovenia.
