Spiders Score Late to Upend Reds, 8-7
|
Fans who came to League Park watched the Cleveland Spiders and the Cincinnati Reds fight to the finish.
The Cleveland Spiders defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 8-7, in Federal League action at League Park, with Cleveland third baseman Kevin Mitchell named player of the game. Cleveland reliever Carlos Perez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-6. Doug Henry took the loss. Steve Karsay, credited with the save, is now 35 for 48 in save opportunities.
Mitchell had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the eighth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Spiders went on to win.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Mitchell.
The Spiders, at 78-78, sit in 4th place in the Federal League East Division.
