Senators Rally For Late Win Over Blue Jays
|
The Toronto Blue Jays got a superb performance from pitcher Hipolito Pichardo. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Washington. The Senators won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Pichardo was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. John Burkett got the win, improving to 17-8. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Troy Percival earned his 37th save in 42 chances.
Had Willie Greene not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Greene hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Senators.
"This was a good win for us," said Greene. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The second-place Senators have won 4 in a row.
