Athletics Shut Out Rockies
|
Oakland and Colorado met in a late-season matchup at Mile High Stadium.
The Oakland Athletics got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Bobby M Jones, but it was good enough for the club to take a 1-0 decision over the Colorado Rockies. Jones, the winner, moves to 11-12. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Jason Bere was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 33 of 39 save opportunities.
Benito Santiago was a prime contributor to the Oakland win. He was 1 for 3 with a walk. In the top of the seventh with one out, the two-time Gold Glove winner hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 1-0, in favor of the Athletics.
"Not too many highlights on our side," said losing manager .
The 4th-place Athletics have won 5 in a row.
