Victory Pushes Rockies Record to 18-13
|
The Colorado Rockies picked up a win at Mile High Stadium, knocking off the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-3. On the mound for Colorado was right-hander Curt Schilling, who played a pivotal role in the win. The save was Joey Eischen's, his 6th. The Blue Jays drop to 14-16 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1997 season.
The Rockies beat the Blue Jays with some clutch hitting. The single by Damion Easley in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Easley gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he came through with the big hit.
Schilling pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
