Rangers Turn Back Minnesota, 4-3
|
The Texas Rangers defeated the Minnesota Twins, 4-3. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Chipper Jones, who was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. Texas reliever John Butcher was the winner. His record is now 4-5. The losing pitcher was Ben Rivera. David Wells was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 4 save opportunities.
Rico Brogna drove in one run for Texas. The 24-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Rob Dibble. It was his 73rd RBI of the season.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Brogna told the Texas Herald.
Texas has now won 3 in a row.
