Mets Fall Short at Montreal
The Expos faced a stiff challenge from New York pitcher Scott Garrelts, but persevered to claim a win at Olympic Stadium. The final score was 4-3. Garrelts went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Montreal starter Jon Lieber was credited with the win after throwing 95 pitches over 9 innings. His record now stands at 15-7. The Expos bumped their record to 93-65 with this latest triumph.

The Expos got an important contribution from third baseman Jeff King, who in the bottom of the ninth knocked a 0-1 fastball into left-center for a run-scoring single. It was his 18th hit of the season and put the Expos ahead, 4-3.

King attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
