Blue Jays Turn Back Senators, 5-3
|
Toronto Blue Jays starter John Smiley was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Washington Senators, 5-3. Smiley went 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 10-12. Steve Shirley notched his 32nd save in 37 chances.
Early in the game, shortstop Jay Bell had a grand slam home run for Toronto. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Blue Jays on top, 4-1.
"We did enough to win," said Bell.
Today's win puts Toronto at 93-64, while Washington falls to 97-60.
