Griffey Jr. belts 2 home runs as Pilots Squeeze Past Baltimore
|
With center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. leading the charge, the Seattle Pilots defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 3-2, at Kingdome. Griffey Jr., who leads the UL in runs scored with 30, went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. Alex Fernandez, the winner, improved to 4-2. He held the Orioles to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. John Franco earned the save, his 3rd.
Griffey Jr. came through with some timely hitting for Seattle. With the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth and no one down, Griffey Jr. hit a 0-1 changeup for a solo home run. His 15th home run of the season made it 2-1, Seattle.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Griffey Jr..
The Pilots have hit the ground running, raising their record to 22-10. While it's still too soon to talk about Seattle hoisting their 1st World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
