Reds Turn Back Cleveland, 5-3
Cincinnati and Cleveland duked it out at League Park and the Reds came out victorious.

Cincinnati starter Jim Abbott pitched effectively against the Cleveland Spiders at League Park. The left-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Cincinnati leads the Federal League East Division by 3½ games.

Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Bobby Higginson to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Reds on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

Higginson called the triumph "a good team win."
