Encarnacion Delivers Walk-Off Win for Marlins
|
Florida withstood an impressive performance by New York right fielder Bobby Abreu to defeat the Yankees, 8-7, at Joe Robbie Stadium. Abreu was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Florida now sits in second place in the Federal League East Division at 91-67.
The Florida win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Juan Encarnacion. In the bottom of the ninth, the Florida left fielder came to bat and hit a walk-off run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 8-7 lead.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Florida manager Stephen Ginter.
