Williams 3-4, Marlins Move to 96-62
|
1996 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the New York Yankees.
The Florida Marlins stopped the New York Yankees, 5-2, behind an impressive performance from Matt Williams. The six-time All-Star made life miserable for New York pitching. He was 3-4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Butch Henry picked up the win, improving his season record to 17-10. He struck out 4 in 9 innings.
Williams contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Florida in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Williams took a changeup from Brian Bohanon and stroked the home run to center. His 24th home run of the season allowed the Marlins to leap in front, 4-2.
"We did enough to win," said Williams.
Florida improves to 96-62 with the win. They lead their division by 6 games.
