Rangers Slip Past Minnesota, 5-4
|
The Texas Rangers eked out a 5-4 win versus the Minnesota Twins at Arlington Stadium. Nobody did more than third baseman Chipper Jones, who captured player of the game honors. Reliever David Wells picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Trevor Hoffman took the loss. Billy Taylor earned his 12th save in 17 chances.
Had Rich Becker not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Becker hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Rangers.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Becker.
Texas now has a 4-game win streak.
