Athletics Come Back Late, Nip Padres
With designated hitter Rickey Henderson leading the charge, the Oakland Athletics defeated the San Diego Padres, 7-6, at Oakland Coliseum. Henderson, who led the UL in runs with 130 in 1988, went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Even with the win, the Athletics have a dismal 55-103 record.

Greg Litton had an important at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the ninth, when he hit a solo home run. His 9th home run of the season put Oakland on top, 7-6.
