|
The Yankees had to overcome a fine effort from Florida pitcher Wilson Alvarez to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Joe Robbie Stadium. Alvarez went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Mark Langston, the winner, improved to 5-3. He held the Marlins to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3. After today's action, New York sits at 57-102, while Florida falls to 91-68.
New York grabbed control in the top of the seventh. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Darren Lewis delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 3-2 in favor of the Yankees.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Lewis. "And not try to do too much."
