Sosa Helps New York Cruise to 10-3 Win
Sammy Sosa had a 4-RBI game, during New York's 10-3 triumph over the San Diego. Sosa contributed 2 singles and 1 home run to the cause. Frank Castillo got the win, improving to 3-4. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 4. The Padres fall to 12-18 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1997 season.

With New York leading 4-3 in the top of the fifth, Sosa hit a curveball from Pete Schourek for a grand slam home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Mets ahead, 8-3.
