Senators Edge Blue Jays, 6-5
|
The Washington Senators beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-5, at SkyDome. The win was largely due to the efforts of third baseman Willie Greene, who captured player of the game honors. He was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. Washington reliever Troy Percival picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Brad Clontz took the loss. Mark Wohlers converted his 5th save in 6 tries.
In the top of the tenth inning, Greene went to the plate for the Senators. With the clubs tied 5-5, he saw a first pitch fastball from Brad Clontz and hit a solo home run to put the Senators on top, 6-5.
"There's no quit in this team," said Senators manager Alexander Cumana.
The Senators have an impressive 99-60 record.
