Gruber Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Baltimore in Walk-Off Win
|
The Memorial Stadium faithful were treated to an exciting walk-off win.
Baltimore got a strong outing from David Wells as the Orioles defeated the Montreal Expos, 3-2, at Memorial Stadium. Baltimore reliever T J Mathews picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Dave Leiper absorbed the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Kelly Gruber came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Montreal pitcher Bobby Munoz, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Baltimore on top, 3-2.
"What an ending!" said a jubilant Gruber.
The 5th-place Orioles now have a win-loss record of 68-91.
