The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the San Diego Padres, 6-5, in United League action at Bank One Ballpark. The player of the game was Arizona pitcher and Hannibal, Missouri native Scott Sanders. Arizona reliever Paul Assenmacher picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-1. Ismael Valdez was collared with the loss. Arizona goes to 94-66. The win puts them 7½ games up in their division.

Moises Alou came through for Arizona in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Alou victimized Ismael Valdez with a solo home run. It was his 36th home run of the season and put Arizona on top, 6-5.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds. "The effort was great."
