Rockies Nip Athletics, 2-1
|
The Colorado Rockies got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Bob Ojeda, but it was good enough for the club to take a 2-1 decision over the Oakland Athletics. Robb Nen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 34 of 43 save opportunities. Colorado is now 92-68, while Oakland is 69-91.
Glenn Davis had a big run-scoring single for the Rockies in the top of the third inning. With Colorado leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Bill Wegman and stroked the single to center. It was his 166th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rockies ahead, 2-0.
"Not to put too fine a point on it," said Davis, "but we really needed that win."
