Buhner Helps Cubs Run Win Streak to 3
|
Chicago left fielder Jay Buhner played a vital role in his team's 8-6 triumph over Boston. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for Chicago. Randy Tomlin, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 11 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 5-1. Doug Jones picked up the save for Chicago, his 5th of the year.
One important at-bat for Chicago came with two out in the top of the fifth inning. With a runner on 2nd, Buhner hit a 2-run home run, which contributed to the Cubs win.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Buhner.
The defending champion Cubs have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 15-16 with the win.
