Ramirez Excels in San Diego Win
The San Diego Padres powered past the Oakland Athletics, 8-4, at Jack Murphy Stadium. Manny Ramirez was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4, to lead the charge. Ismael Valdez picked up the win, improving his season record to 15-17. He struck out 7 in 8 innings. With the victory, the Padres record now stands at 78-83.

The Padres beat the Athletics with some clutch hitting. The home run by Vinny Castilla in the bottom of the third is a good example. With two down, Castilla gave his team the lead, 3-1, when he came through with the big hit.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Matt Dodds said.
