Higginson, Reds Too Much for Red Sox
|
The exploits of right fielder Bobby Higginson, who is tied for 7th in the FL in triples with 7, helped the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Boston Red Sox, 5-2. Higginson went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Joey Hamilton picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 9. On the season, he is now 11-10. Doug Henry notched his 9th save in 11 chances.
With Cincinnati leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Higginson hit a fastball from Mark Thompson for a solo home run. It was his 25th home run of the season and put the Reds ahead, 2-0.
"If it's down the middle," said Higginson, "you might as well hit it."
Cincinnati is now 93-69.
