Minnesota beat Kansas City on the strength of starter Hideo Nomo's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Rob Dibble converted his 23rd save in 27 tries. The Twins saw their win-loss record go to 77-85. At the same time, the Royals fell to 99-63.

The Twins beat the Royals with some clutch hitting. The double by Brent Gates in the top of the fourth is a good example. With two down, Gates gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Nomo said.
