Rangers Top Cubs in Extras
|
The Texas Rangers beat the Chicago Cubs, 7-6, at Wrigley Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Ken Caminiti, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4 for 6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win boosts the Rangers to 87-75. The loss puts the Cubs at 90-72.
An important at-bat for the Rangers came in the top of the 13th, when third baseman Chipper Jones stroked a run-scoring double. That made the score 7-6 in favor of Texas. For the day, Jones was 2 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Caminiti.
