The New York Mets managed to get by the Washington Senators, 3-2, at Shea Stadium. New York pitcher Mike Morgan took player of the game honors. Morgan went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 3. His record improves to 7-11. The Mets bumped their record to 86-76 with this latest triumph.

The Mets beat the Senators with some clutch hitting. The single by Tino Martinez in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Martinez gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he came through with the big hit.

"Feels good to get the job done," Morgan said after the game.
