Mets Beat Blue Jays in 10
|
New York starter Tom Glavine pitched effectively against the Toronto Blue Jays at SkyDome. The left-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. New York reliever Mike Sirotka picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-2. T J Mathews was collared with the loss. Dan Plesac earned his 30th save in 39 chances.
The Mets used some clutch hitting to beat the Blue Jays, a good example being the at-bat of Gary Sheffield in the top of the tenth. With two down, Sheffield gave his team the lead, 5-3, when he hit a 2-run home run.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Sheffield told the New York Citizen.
The Mets bumped their record to 88-74 with this latest triumph.
