Padres Shut Out Athletics
|
San Diego right-hander Darryl Kile was in fine form, shutting out the Oakland Athletics, 2-0. The winning pitcher was Kile, now 12-13. He tossed 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. The third-place Padres raised their record to 79-83.
Also pitching in was San Diego center fielder Jim Edmonds, who hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, Edmonds went 1 for 4 with a home run.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" San Diego manager Matt Dodds said.
