The Cincinnati Reds racked up a win at Riverfront Stadium, bumping off the Minnesota Twins, 4-3. Mike Mussina, who started for Cincinnati, pitched effectively for his team. The Twins fall to 14-18 and continue their lethargic start to the 1997 season.

Matt Lawton, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1994 draft, helped out the Cincinnati cause in the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1 for 1 with a home run.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Minnesota skipper Darren Fischbach.
