Cardinals Sneak Past Red Sox, 3-2
|
The Boston Red Sox got a superb performance from pitcher Tom Gordon, but the St. Louis Cardinals still won the game, 3-2. Gordon was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball. Mariano Rivera got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. The 4th-place Cardinals have won 7 straight.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when first baseman Brian S Giles, who is tied for 4th in the FL in extra base hits with 20, drew a walk. The Cardinals went on to win.
After the game, St. Louis manager Adam Rabel applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
