Big Day at the Plate for Gonzalez Not Enough for Rockies
The Colorado Rockies got a sterling performance from left fielder Juan Gonzalez, but the Mets still prevailed, 7-5. Gonzalez was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He slugged 3 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring three times. The Mets bumped their record to 18-15 with this latest triumph.

The Mets beat the Rockies with some clutch hitting. The single by Gary Sheffield in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Sheffield gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he came through with the big hit.

"It feels good to get this one," Sheffield told the New York Today.
