Giants Shut Out Orioles
The San Francisco Giants got a stellar performance from pitcher Scott Sanders, who handcuffed the Baltimore offense en route to a 3-0 win at Memorial Stadium. The winning pitcher was Sanders, now 4-1. He tossed 5.1 innings of 0-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 8. The Giants, now 25-7, have been on a roll in the early going.

Carlos Baerga was 1 for 3 with a walk for San Francisco. The 26-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off Steve Avery. It was his 33rd hit of the season.

"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Sanders told the San Francisco Bulletin. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
