Los Angeles center fielder Torii Hunter had a good game, even if his team did not. The Dodgers dropped a 7-6 decision to Montreal at Olympic Stadium. Hunter was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. Montreal reliever Mike Jeffcoat picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-2. Lance Painter was collared with the loss. The first-place Expos have won 7 in a row.

Raul Mondesi provided some late-game heroics for Montreal. In the bottom of the ninth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 2-2 fastball from Lance Painter and propelled Montreal to a 7-6 lead.

"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Mondesi after the game.
