Rockies Prove Rude Guests, Win 6-4 at New York
The Colorado Rockies defeated the New York Mets, 6-4. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Juan Gonzalez, who was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Jack McDowell picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 3 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 5-2. Joey Eischen was credited with the save for Colorado, his 3rd of the season.

Gonzalez contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Colorado in the top of the sixth. With his team trailing 3-0, Gonzalez took a sinker from Bob Milacki and stroked the home run to left. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Rockies to leap in front, 4-3.

"I felt good up there," said Gonzalez. "I saw the ball well."

The win boosts the Rockies to 21-14. The loss puts the Mets at 19-16.
