Smoltz K's 12 En Route to 5-1 Devil Rays Win
Orlando starter John Smoltz put a stranglehold on the New York offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Devil Rays to a 5-1 win. The Devil Rays, now 17-19, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.

Smoltz, who leaned on his fastball, allowed no runs on just 3 hits over 6.2 innings for the Devil Rays. For the most part, New York hitters were simply overmatched.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Smoltz said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
