Red Sox Win at Pittsburgh, 9-4
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox cranked it up at Three Rivers Stadium.
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Craig Shipley, the Pittsburgh Pirates suffered a 9-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Shipley went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Boston reliever John Ericks was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was David Nied.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Akira Eto to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to give the Red Sox the lead, 2-1. For the game, Eto had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
Eto told a Boston Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
At 18-18, the Red Sox are currently third in the Federal League East Division.
