Multi-HR Game for Ramirez in 8-6 Win
|
The San Diego Padres knocked off the Washington Senators, 8-6, at RFK Stadium. Manny Ramirez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason San Diego won. The designated hitter was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 6. San Diego reliever Gil Heredia was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Todd Jones. Mike Schooler sewed up the save, his 1st.
San Diego used the clutch hitting of Andy Van Slyke to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Padres the lead, 7-6. For the game, Van Slyke had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Ramirez.
The win moves San Diego to a record of 3-2.
