Loss to Mets Extends Detroit Losing Streak
|
New York catcher B.J. Surhoff played a vital role in his team's 9-5 triumph over Detroit. He went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times for New York. Mike Morgan was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 1 strikeout. Jim Bullinger picked up the save for New York, his 1st of the year.
The Mets got a big at-bat from left fielder Cliff Floyd. For the game, Floyd went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 6th home run of the season gave New York a 8-4 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Floyd told the New York Today.
The Tigers, at 13-24, have lost 9 straight games.
