Braves Get Win, Extend Streak to 7
|
Pittsburgh right fielder Mark Whiten was sensational. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Atlanta beat the Pirates, 9-5. Whiten was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winning continues for Atlanta, with the latest making it 7 straight.
Atlanta relied on the hitting of Bernard Gilkey to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Braves on top, 4-0. For the game, Gilkey had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"This team is real focused right now," said Atlanta manager Will Henderson.
