Dominant Performance by Rijo in Cincinnati Win
|
New York had no answer for Cincinnati Reds hurler Jose Rijo, who overwhelmed Yankees hitters as the Reds coasted to a 6-1 victory. The Reds, now 21-17, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Rijo, the winner, is now 3-2 after putting the clamps on the New York offense. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits, while collecting 10 Ks.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Rijo, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
