Tigers Prevail, 3-1, Over Washington
|
The Detroit Tigers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Steve Trachsel, who muffled the Washington offense en route to a tight 3-1 Tigers win at RFK Stadium. Detroit is last in the United League East Division with a record of 14-24.
It could have been a different outcome for Detroit, had it not been for Tino Martinez, the 29-year old first baseman . Martinez contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Detroit up, 3-1.
Afterward, Tigers manager Julio Izquierdo was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
