Marlins Sneak Past Mets, 5-4
|
The Florida Marlins did just enough to sneak past the New York Mets, 5-4, at Shea Stadium. Florida pitcher Dana Kiecker earned player of the game honors. In 9.2 innings, Kiecker surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. He allowed 4 runs. Carlos C. Maldonado closed the game out for Florida, earning his 2nd save.
It could have been a different outcome for Florida, had it not been for Mike Greenwell, the four-time All-Star . Greenwell contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Florida up, 4-3.
"We squandered some opportunities," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
The Marlins saw their win-loss record go to 15-23. At the same time, the Mets fell to 21-17.
