Expos Down Dodgers, 8-5
|
It was a good time at Olympic Stadium, where fans came to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers and Montreal Expos get after it.
The Montreal Expos defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-5, at Olympic Stadium. Montreal second baseman Jeff Kent was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 1-2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Montreal reliever Mike Jeffcoat picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ricardo Rincon was saddled with the loss. Ricky Bottalico picked up the save, his 1st.
Montreal took a 6-5 lead on Mike Sweeney's 3rd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Sweeney hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Los Angeles pitcher Ricardo Rincon visibly frustrated.
"We take it day by day here," said Sweeney, "and today was a good one for us."
The Expos, now 3-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
