|
Starting pitcher Kelly Downs pitched well enough to help the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres by the score of 5-3. Downs, now 4-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 3 earned runs. The Rockies, at 23-16, sit in second place in the United League West Division.
Tim Salmon had a nice at-bat for the Rockies with two out in the top of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the right fielder hit a 2-run double, which would prove important in the Colorado win.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Downs.
